Russian forces say they have killed Chechen rebel leader Aslan Maskhadov. Russian television has shown pictures of a body resembling that of Mr Maskhadov. But President Putin has asked for further identification. FSB chief Nikolay Patrushev, speaking to Mr Putin in the Kremlin, said the FSB's "today carried out an operation in the settlement of Tolstoy-Yurt, as a result of which the international terrorist and leader of armed groups Maskhadov was killed, and his closest comrades-in-arms detained".
