George Rodger 

At first glance, George Rodger's photographs of the London Blitz appear surprisingly quiet, almost indeed peaceful. Here are no warehouses blasted into streets ; no heoric firemen stagger through blazing infernos ; no piles of corpses wait to be identified. What George Rodger give us is the ordinary man or woman in extraordinary situations ; the normalities and decencies of everyday life, surviving amid the horrors of a war waged with modern weapons of destruction against a civilian population.
