Walid Jumblatt, leader of the Druze community of Lebanon knows he is a marked man. In 2005, after 28 years of silence, he said publicly what everybody knew, that it was the Syrian regime who killed his father Kamal, thus reversing an old alliance with the Al-Assad family dictatorship. Since then he rarely ventures out of his fiefdom of Mukhtara in the Chouf mountains, and when he does it is with armed guards. "If the Syrians really want to kill me, there is nothing to prevent them. In our family we do not die peacefully in our bed. Both my father and grandfather were murdered."
