February 1st 2004 will be the 50th anniversary of the French association Emmaus, founded by the abbot Pierre. Fifty years of solidarity and daily assistance towards society's weakest citizens, homeless, illegal immigrants and the unemployed. The photographer Richard Kalvar met with the many volunteers, teachers, consultants and their recipients. From the solidarity teams patrolling the streets of Paris to the many thrift shops in Neuilly Plaisance, a nearby suburb, he has documented the life of the association in Toulouse, where the main headquarters are as well as a number of secondhand flee markets....
