The English writer V.S. NAIPAUL ,born 1932 in Trinidad, has been awarded the Nobel Prize in literature 2001 for his ``incorruptible scrutiny in works that compel us to see the presence of suppressed histories,'' including critical assessments of colonial rule and Muslim fundamentalism in non-Arab lands.
