Gathering of Nations. May, 2017:
"The origin of the Native powwow is unknown. It was outlawed in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s (along with all religious gatherings) and revitalized after World War II. Since then, its celebrations, songs and dances have been adopted and adapted by Indigenous communities across the continent. The largest powwow in North America took place May April 28-28 in Albuquerque New Mexico featuring 3000 competitive singers and dancers who came to celebrate native culture in a presentation and demonstration of community pride. Some regalia takes years to make and may be handed down from generation to generation."

The Pueblo, New Mexico. 2017:
"New Mexico is the home of some 19 living pueblos (villages) where Pueblo Indians from five language groups, currently live. They are the Piro, Hopi, Zuni, Keresan, and Tano with its three subgroups: Tiwa, Tewa and Towa. The state also hosts dozens of historic sites where Native Americans lived and farmed long before the Spanish arrived in 1539 which lead to their eventual subjugation. When the US government won the US/Mexico War in 1848, New Mexico became a U.S. State and its inhabitants, U.S. citizens. With the advent of the automobile, American tourists began to flood the region creating resentment among many Pueblo, often using Native American iconography to sell gasoline, motel accommodation, and souvenirs. National Parks were created to accommodate the tourist trade. Following the Gathering Of Nations powwow in Albuquerque, in May 2017, Larry Towell spent a week driving through Pueblo region as part of his on-going project on the original Americans."
