Los Afortunados, is a series made around the Spanish/Moroccan border between 2019 to 2020. The work centers around the youth attempting to cross into Europe through Melilla, an autonomous Spanish city located on the northwest coast of Africa which was seized from Morocco in 1497.

There is a constant flow of youth, mainly young men and boys, migrating from all parts of Morocco to Nador (the province bordering this Spanish territory) with the aim of reaching Europe. The acquisition of a Nador´s passport, only allows people to cross into Melilla legally, but not on to the Spanish peninsula. So instead, most of the youths attempt everyday to hide inside the ferry boats -and trucks within- that cross over to the ports of Malaga and Almeria. This practice is known amongst themselves as risky. Risky is constantly happening in the harbours on both sides of the border.

During this period of time most of the boys live in the streets.
On the Spanish side, the illegal procedures into how their migratory status is handled by the immigration police and government, the violence wielded on them by the port security forces and the corrupt infrastructure of inhospitable boarding centres, has all become normalised.

The work revolves around the conditions produced by the risks they take everyday as well as the way of life generated by these circumstances. The nerve, adrenaline, fear, tension, the constant daring, the brotherhood, the clothing, all bear the signs and characteristics of warriors, rather than migrants.
