Marilyn Silverstone

Svetlana ALLILUYEVA (the daughter of Joseph STALIN and his wife Nadia Alliluyeva) first came to Kalankar along the Ganges as she had been allowed to bring the ashes of her husband (despite the fact that registration of their marriage had been refused in Moscow) for immersion in the Ganges at his birthplace. Her Indian husband Brijesh SINGH she had first met in 1960 in a Moscow clinic being treated for a tonsillectomy, and fell in love with a tuberculosis Indian communist, he was unable to return to Russia until 1965.The registration of their marriage was never surmounted during the 18 months they had lived together. Brijesh SINGH had shown her photos of his village of Kalankar when he went back to Russia in 1965 and she got her first impression of the village.
