Film : UNDER THE VOLCANO. by John Huston

Directed by John HUSTON, the final scenes for the film in which the Consul (played by Albert FINNEY) and his wife Yvonne (played by Jacqueline BISSET) meet their deaths is shot in a Cantina (bar) which is also a bordello called the El Farilito. The old bar still exists in the center of Cuernavaca, where Malcolm LOWRY the writer of the story used to booze, but it is now derelict. For this scene a new Cantina was built.
The "ladies" are real professionals, were recruited from Mexico City. There were to be 18 of them, along with a transvestite and a dwarf who rand the bordello.
Also appearing in these photos are; Guy GALLO the screen writer, Anthony Andrews an actor who learns how to be a bullfighter, Michael FITZGERALD (the Executive Producer) and his wife Kathy Fitzgerald. "Goby" FIGHEROA who is John Huston's cameraman (he made with him THE NIGHT OF THE IGUANA).Huston's daughter Allegra and her brother Danny, who helped out in the film. Roberto RILVI the film editor.
The story is about the life of the British Consul in Mexico during a 24 hour drunken binge on the 'Day of the Dead" around the year 1938.
