FRA.Manif/Soutien GAILLOT Evêque d'Evreux destitué.
Jean Gaumy
FRA.Evreux.22 January 1995.
France's liberal Bishop Monseigneur Jacques GAILLOT whose dismissal by the Vatican opened a rift in the Roman Catholic Church, bade farewell to his diocese today, but promised not to be silenced. he claims to represent people on the margins of society (homeless, immigrants, AIDS victims), and celebrated a farwell mass in the soaring Gothic cathedral of Evreux where he had been a Bishop for 12 years. Rome dismissed him because of his frequent media appearances, claiming he had no monopoly on ministering to the poor. He was ousted, giving him a transfer to a defunct "See" in Africa called Partenia.
