1568 WWI Postcards

November 8, 2018
by Thomas Dworzak
For seven years, Magnum photographer Thomas Dworzak has been researching WWI. He has now developed over 1500 photos as postcards, with texts by Chris Bird detailing anecdotes on the conflict behind each picture.
There is a postcard for each of the days of World War One, 1568 in all, shot across 90 countries, all involved in the conflict at the time, from the Balkans, Europe to the Middle-East, Africa, Asia, Oceania.
We tend to remember WWI as involving just Germany, France, England, Canada and the US but no fighting actually occurred in Germany, and the first soldier in British service to fire a shot in the First World War was a Ghanaian fighting in Togo.
