French Agriculture

In the current European agriculture industry, traditional small French farms are struggling with rising costs, falling prices, and competition from other countries where wages are lower and environmental regulations are weaker. Throughout 2016, Richard Kalvar - a native New Yorker living in Paris - photographed local stockbreeders and veterinarians from Pleben, a small town in the Brittany region. For these families, the multi-generational passion of farming is as essential to their lives as it is their livelihood.
