The third iteration of Foto/Industria Biennial returns to Bologna this Autumn, with an exhibit devoted to the Czech-French photographer's poignant industrial landscapes.

The exhibit brings together the fascinating photos of Josef Koudelka's seminal series for the first time. At the end of the eighties, the photographer decided to turn the lens to the landscape and its destructive transformations at the hand of contemporary man. As the photographer explained "what is terrible is the destruction, not the destroyed landscape".

In its post-war years, Bologna quickly became a thriving industrial cityscape. Its edges hemmed with the mark of human impact. In this light, the city makes a fitting backdrop for Koudelka's moody panoramas, which eloquently documenting the impression of industry upon our natural world. It’s in these majestic locations that Koudelka finds material for an extraordinary collection of new spectacular compositions, in a dimension that few other projects can fully equate.
