Liberation and Le Monde: Newspapers Now And Then

February 20, 2018
by A. Abbas
In 1976 and 1983, Abbas documented the processes behind the production of two major French newspapers Le Monde and Libération, from the newsroom to the printing press.
Since then, a revolution in information and communications technology has radically altered the print press and the journalistic process as a whole. 40 years later, one can’t help but notice that the typewriters have gone, replaced by an armada of computers. Moreover, although they used to be radically different, the editorial lines of the two newspapers converged, and their journalists increasingly look alike.
Abbas went to the slick new offices of Le Monde and Libération to document these transformations.
