Since 2010, aspiring sailors from the Naval Academy in Brest have spent a few days journeying along the coast of Brittany during the Armada de l’Espoir. With each new embarkment they discover the richness and value of the maritime world.

Every adventure at sea is instructive as they confront the ocean, a complex and ever-changing environment to which they must constantly adapt. The naissent mariners quickly learn the keys to nautical success: teamwork, solidarity, respect for the environment. Jean Gaumy joined the young seafarers aboard the schooner “L’Etoile” for a three-day trip between Brest and Concarneau.
