Mark Power Workshop
January 22, 2013
by Mark Power
Cesura is proud to present during the 6th and 7th of April 2013, a two day workshop experience with Magnum photographer Mark Power.
Mark Power became a photographer in 1983, before he began teaching in 1992. This move coincided with a shift towards long-term, self initiated projects which now sit comfortably alongside a
number of large-scale commissions in the industrial sector.
To date Mark Power has published six monographs: The Shipping Forecast (1996); Superstructure (2000); The Treasury Project (2002); 26 Different Endings (2007); The Sound of Two Songs (2010)
and Mass (2013). His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the world.
Mark Power joined Magnum Photos in 2002, becoming a full Member in 2007. He is also Professor of photography at the University of Brighton.
This is a rare moment to listen to and learn from an experienced and internationally renowned photographer.Over the course of the two days Mark Power will demonstrate, in a very personal and
detailed way, his approach to many of his photographic projects (some well known, others less so) and guide you through the process of each of his decisions. To enrich this process Mark will show some of the photobooks that have inspired and influenced his work, which is less about the single image and more about the visual narrative of sequenced photographs.
Portfolio reviews will be given during the workshop; students work will be looked and commented upon within the group, helping to clarify ideas and enabling the students to empower their photographic thought and practice through collective debate on each persons portfolio.
