Jean Gaumy lives in Fécamp, a city of 20 000 inhabitants, located in Normandy in the north of France. When the coronavirus started with a lockdown from March 17th, Gaumy decided to chronicle his surroundings. Along with his ongoing project to photograph his family and his neighbours, he decided to focus on the « essentials » : workers who are considered vital to the functioning of the city and its citizens and therefore continue working through the lockdown.
Among these, Gaumy followed two of the city’s garbage collection teams, a mailwoman in her letter distribution and a nurse taking care of patients with COVID-19 from home.
