Hostile Environment Training for French Diplomats

March 10, 2017
by Thomas Dworzak
French Foreign Ministry diplomats and consular employees undergo regularly hostile environment training at the French Special Forces in Paris region. The training replicates various security scenarios that diplomats could experience in high risk countries in their line of work, including, for example, a Coup D'Etat, crossing unofficial checkpoints, hostile interrogation, intimidation, hostage taking and ransom demands. The trainees also develop their night time skills, learn how to adapt to ground conditions and their exfiltration skills in surreptitiously removing themselves from dangerous situations.

Thomas Dworzak followed one of the diplomats training sessions.
