The Syrian War: 7 Years And Counting....

April 17, 2018
by Magnum Photographers
The Syrian civil war began in early spring 2011 in the southern city of Deraa, where pro-democracy uprisings erupted against Bashar al-Assad government. The violent response led to an armed rebellion by various Islamist, nationalist and secular groups opposed to Assad.
In those years, the conflict has caused large-scale death and destruction making it the largest and most complex humanitarian crisis since WW2, with more than 350,000 killed by March 2018. Furthermore, almost 6 million Syrians have fled their country since the beginning of the conflict.
The war in Syria shows no signs of ending and the situation continues to deteriorate.
