Jazz violinist Didier Lockwood has died from a stroke on February 18, 2018, aged 62. He was a prominent figure in the French jazz scene, and part of the progressive rock/jazz fusion band Magma in the 1970s. He was known for his use of electric amplification and experimentation on the electric violin. He constantly switched between genres, and composed, among other things, concertos for violins and pianos, movie soundtracks and two operas. Didier Lockwood performed around 4500 concerts around the world.
