Work from a collaboration between Magnum Photos and Maison des Journalistes goes on show in Paris

Magnum Photos has partnered with the Maison des Journalistes (MDJ) ahead of World Press Freedom Day 2019 for a publication and exhibition entitled “From Here”. The project combines the personal experiences of exiled journalists and Magnum Photographers around the notions of exile, repression and resilience. Using the camera and the pen, the project offers a glimpse at the lived experiences of individuals who defend their right of freedom of expression in contexts where it is constantly under threat, from detention and exile to the difficulties adapting to new life far away from home.

“From Here” aims to raise awareness of some of the challenges journalists and media professionals face daily and highlights the need to welcome those who flee repression and threats. Alongside the images of Magnum photographers, a free publication also encourages the exiled journalists to write, inform and mobilize again.

Since 2012, MDJ has hosted and accompanied the integration in France of nearly 400 media professionals from more than 60 countries.
