March 20, 2018
by Christopher Anderson
Mario Vargas Llosa is one of the most influential Latin American writer of his generation. He is considered the most prominent figure of the Latin American Boom, a literary movement of the 1960s and 1970s, and won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2010.
Mario Vargas Llosa ran for the Peruvian presidency at the head of a center-right coalition, the Democratic Front, but was eventually defeated by Alberto Fujimori.
Like many of his contemporary Latin American writers, Llosa was politically active on the Left, but through disillusionment over time, moved towards the Right with his support for economic liberalism.
