Pulitzer Prize winning American author Philip Roth has died at the age of 85. His career was marked by scandal, he was as controversial as he was admired. Portroy’s Complaint, wrote in 1969, catapulted him to notoriety, making him a celebrity in the US.

During his lifetime he entered the prestigious Library of America, the equivalent of the French Pléiade.
