Johnny Hallyday, singer and icon of the "Années Yé-Yé" in France, passed away on December 5th, 2017, at the age of 74. He sold a total of 110 million records over his career, making him one of the best selling artist of all time. The first rock-star of the francophone world, his work was influenced by American musicians such as Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry; and he once recorded an album in Nashville, the capital of American country music. He inspired an entire generation of French people not just through his music but also on stage and through numerous appearances in movies, embodying a deep cultural movement.
