Ali Abdullah Saleh Killed in Yemen

December 4, 2017
by Magnum Photographers
Former Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh has been killed south of Sanaa during fighting between his supporters and their former allies, the Houthi rebels. Until recently, Saleh and the Houthi had been united in opposition to the current president, Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi, but last week the factions turned on each other.

Saleh had been president of Yemen from 1990 until he was deposed in 2012, during Arab Spring. Thousands have been killed and millions displaced since the Civil War began in 2015.
