NYC Above 800 Feet

As of today, 21 of New York City’s buildings are at least 800 feet tall but only three are residential. This high altitude was long limited to office space but an elite few, striving for bragging rights, have been buying residences high above the city. Only 40 people can claim to live above 800 feet but, reacting to the demand, developers are constructing more residential towers - by 2020 at least 11 more will be part of the Manhattan skyline.
On assignment for the New York Times Magazine, Christopher Anderson visited a number of the city’s skyscrapers; some classic, others under construction.
