Hurricane Sandy first made landfall in Jamaica on October 24th, 2012 causing massive damage there and also in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, and the Bahamas before weakening and heading northward. It regain strength, curved west and drove into the north-east US.
"Superstorm" Sandy's high winds and surge caused massive damage in New York and New Jersey, especially in the ocean-side areas of the Jersey shore, Staten Island and the Rockaway section of Queens but power outages effected millions further inland and all over the region.
