John Singleton, the acclaimed American filmmaker, has passed away at the age of 51 after suffering a stroke on April 17, 2019. Singleton became the first African American - and youngest person - to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director for his debut 1991 film "Boyz n the Hood."
