Archive - The Destruction of Penn Station: 1963 - 1966 

Bruce Davidson 

New York City's original Pennsylvania Station was constructed in 1910 between Midtown's 31st and 33rd Streets, and Seven and Eighth Avenues. Its completion introduced Manhattan's first direct access to train lines leading south. Prior to that time, trains lines approaching New York from the south and west terminated across the Hudson River in Jersey City, where passengers had to rely on ferries to complete the final leg of their city-bound journeys. The new station also allowed for Long Island Railroad's direct access to Manhattan.
