The 2017 hurricane season has been extremely active. As of October 1st, 5 major hurricanes have developed resulting in 278 fatalities and at least $184B in damage.
Along with other islands in the Antilles, the US Virgin Islands suffered the effects of multiple storms. Hurricane Irma, the most powerful Atlantic storm in a century, struck the USVI on September 6th as a category 5 storm. The storm brought 12 inches of rain and intense winds that resulted in $2B in damage and four deaths.
