Exhibition - Arresting Time
Lessing’s work often revolves around the human condition at the moment when power and
powerlessness come face to face. His remarkable 1950s images recording post-war Europe and
in particular his pictures of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution attracted worldwide admiration. In
1960 Lessing moved from politics to art and photographed the making of movies, actors,
directors, artists, poets, writers, musicians, composers, dancers, mime artists and singers.
ARRESTING TIME is a tribute to Lessing’s talent as a photojournalist and is a visual record of
a time of turmoil and great change.
