Leading Israeli author Amos Oz has died at the age of 79. Born in Jerusalem in 1939, he was one of Israel's most widely-read writers, his work having been translated in 45 languages. He won several prizes and awards including the Israel Prize, the French Legion d'Honneur, the German Heinrich Heine prize, the Prince of Asturias Award in Literature, and a membership of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
