Pervez Musharraf, the former president of Pakistan from 2001 to 2008, has been sentenced to death for high treason by a special court in Islamabad. The charge against Mr. Musharraf is tied to his 2007 attempt to stymie an opposition movement against him by declaring a state of emergency across the country. In 2016 Mr. Musharraf fled to Dubai for undisclosed medical treatment and has not yet returned to Pakistan.
