Men have long ruled the kitchen in the culinary world but the industry has now entered an age of flowering female talent. Although only around 20 percent of restaurants are run by women, the numbers of female students in cooking schools are soaring as a new generation joins longtime standouts who fought gender barriers to make life taste delicious for the rest of us. Diana Markosian traveled to culinary hot-spots in California and New Orleans to photograph some of the US restaurant industry’s accomplished female chefs.
