On August 17th 2012, three members of the Russian punk band "Pussy Riot" were convicted of "hooliganism motivated by religious hatred" and sentenced to two years in jail. The band had previously stages unauthorized guerilla concerts in public spaces performing music that included themes of feminism, LGBT rights, and the opposition to Vladimir Putin.
