Afghans' favorite passtime seems to be betting on animal fights. From the tiny quail to the giant camel, Afghan males bet also on fights between cocks, partridges, dogs and bulls. During the Taliban regime, all betting was outlawed as contrary to the sharia, and no fighting was taking place. Offenders would be punished by public flogging or jail term. Since the fall of the Taliban, quail and cockfights take place every morning inside a coutyard of the Kabul Bazaar.
