Edwin Raymond, 27, NYPD officer.
He grew up very poor in Flatbush. Was raised by neighbors. Wanted to give something back. When he was 20, a friend turned him on to Malcolm X and others. He became an avid reader. Grew dreads, became a vegan. Later became a cop. He wanted to climb the ranks and improve community relations with police.

His commander, supervisor, etc., required an arrest quota, but Edwin didn't think that was right. He prefers to give warnings.

He was reprimanded and got low progress reports in spite of getting the 8th highest score on a test taken by 900 cops. He was not making enough arrests. He had started taping conversations with bosses secretly, about quotas. It's part of a law suit against the NYPD.
