On this day in 1975, the People's Army of Vietnam and the National Liberation Front captured Saigon, marking the end of the Vietnam war and the beginning of the reunification of the country as a communist state. The event is a seminal moment in modern history -- a benchmark of many eastern and western historical narratives.
