Magnum Days at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown

A Week of Photography Workshops, Activities and Special Events on Cape Cod

MAGNUM DAYS at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown is a weeklong celebration of photography beginning on Monday, September 15 and running through Sunday, September 21, 2014, in historic Provincetown, MA, hosted by the Fine Arts Work Center (FAWC) at its campus on Cape Cod.

Magnum Days will be anchored by four workshops led by renowned Magnum photographers Olivia Arthur, Bruno Barbey, David Alan Harvey and Constantine Manos. Applications are still open and you may apply here.

Throughout the week, there will be lectures by the workshop teachers as well as an ongoing presentation of images from the Magnum archive. The Magnum Legacy will present images by Magnum photographers throughout its history and Magnum Film Clips will be a screening of selections from films made by the photographers. The Magnum Print Exhibition in the Hudson D. Walker Gallery will feature a selection of special signed Magnum Edition prints available for purchase.

The Gala Weekend will bring visiting photographers Bruce Davidson, Susan Meiselas and Peter van Agtmael who will join their workshop colleagues for the weekend. Programming for the weekend will include On SATURDAY: First Impressions, the Magnum Portfolio Review Program, a symposium on the state of photography today, an evening program and reception honoring Magnum legend Bruce Davidson. On SUNDAY Susan Meiselas will outline the mission of the Magnum Foundation and show the work of emerging photographers who have received grants. David Alan Harvey and Burn Magazine will present work by emerging photographers that BURN has published. Additionally, there will be projections and discussions of outstanding pictures by workshop students published in the British Journal of Photography, as well as selected work by students of the Magnum Day workshop instructors.

The Magnum Days Pass allows guests to attend all of the Magnum Days events and with priority seating (where applicable) with the exception of the workshops, Portfolio Reviews and the Gala Dinner. For a week pass, purchase your pass here. For a weekend only pass purchase your pass here.

Single lectures and other events are ticketed at $15 per event.

The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown is a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging the growth and development of emerging visual artists and writers, and to maintaining the year-round vitality of the historic art colony of Provincetown. The Work Center is internationally known for its acclaimed Fellowship residency program offering long-term residencies to 20 emerging artists and writers selected from 1,300 applications worldwide.
