Goodbye Michelle Vignes

October 9, 2012
Michelle Vignes has always been engaged in social photography, remembered for her coverage of the Black Panthers, the American Indian Movement, the Vietnam War protests, blues and gospel musicians, and more. She also co-founded the International Fund for Documentary Photography and Fotovision in San Francisco. Her passion for documentary photography grew during her experience as a photo editor at Magnum in the 50's. Since then, she has been part of Magnum's family: "When I joined Magnum it was to be in the world, that’s what gave me the idea of becoming a photographer that I would not have done otherwise. (...) The vision. The quality. The passion. Magnum had that." Michelle Vignes will be missed and remembered by the photo community.
