Brazil, An Unorthodox Rabbi

March 14, 2014
by A. Abbas
Gilberto Ventura studied in an orthodox yeshiva in Israel. He wears permanently the kippa, observes strictly the shabat and prays with the tiffilin.

But in Sao Paulo, where he lives with his family, he is no orthodox rabbi! He has set up an inter-religious music band which includes a Muslim, a devotee of the Hare Krishna Hindu sect, a Buddhist, a Catholic and another Jew.

Rabbi Ventura is unorthodox when he visits favelas where he sympathises with under-privilege inhabitants, distributes food or plays football with children.
