Halloween in NYC

During a brief stop in New York, Bruno Barbey decided to photograph the city during one of the strangest days of the year: Halloween.

Descended from the ancient pagan holiday, Samhain, Halloween creates a stir among American children and adults alike. While young ones may go trick or treating for candy, adults in NY don costumes and attend parties late into the evening.

The Village Halloween Parade has been the focal point for public celebration since 1972. One could say that New Yorkers give the holiday the same sort of attention that those in New Orleans might for Mardi Gras.
