July 3, 2013
Peter van Agtmael, voted in as a Magnum nominee in 2008, was made a full member at last week's Annual General Meeting.

A Yale graduate and Washington D.C. native, van Agtmael earned a degree in history in 2003, and began his career living in China, shooting the Three Gorges Dam. Since 2006, his work has primarily been focused in the Middle East, covering both the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and their ever-pervasive ramifications on life back in America. In 2008, he helped organize a book and exhibition titled Battlespace, which exposed previously unseen work of 22 photographers covering the wars in the Middle East. In 2009, he published a collection of his combat photography, 2nd Tour Hope I Don’t Die. He has won numerous awards, including the ICP Infinity Award, W. Eugene Smith Grant, the Lumix Freelens Award, and prizes from World Press Photo, American Photography Annual, the Pulitzer Center and Photo District News.

Magnum is thrilled to have Peter join the collective.
