Warhol's Soup

July 9, 2013
On this day in 1962, artist Andy Warhol debuted his famous Campbell's Soup Cans, a pop-art piece that now exists as a uniquely poignent symbol in the history of American art and cultural commentary. But Warhol's influence on the art world extended far beyond the seminal nature of his own work; he was, with his signature hair, glasses, dress and enigmatic air, wildly photogenic. Magnum photographers were drawn to Warhol, and he was photographed by the likes of Elliott Erwitt, Thomas Hoepker, Bruce Davidson, Philippe Halsman and Wayne Miller to name a few.
