Editorial and Commercial Department Interns

Department Overview

The assignment department in NY works closely with the editorial teams in London and Paris. We work across the globe to secure assignments for photographers. Working closely with the photographers and publications, Magnum agents will negotiate all of the terms for a commissioned assignment.

What You Can Expect to Learn

This internship will work in the Assignment Department on projects that span across editorial and commercial fields. This program will allow you to get a better understanding of what it is like to work in both industries.

This is an opportunity for someone who is interested in learning more about editorial and commercial fields of photography. Participants will gain a better understanding of the assignment process. This knowledge will be specifically beneficial for anyone interested in working at an agency, publication, or a working photographer.

Departmental Duties and Responsibilities

Interns will work directly with the Content Editor on active assignments and conduct research for future projects and proposals. The internship will provide valuable insight into the daily tasks of an agent, as well as an overall understanding of the industry as a whole.

Daily tasks can include:

• Research and writing pitch text

• Uploading tearsheets to the Magnum archive

• Assisting with project proposals and photographer portfolios

• Research for larger long-term photographer projects
