After months of protest and public outcry, on December 4th, the US government announced it would halt construction of the infamous oil pipeline due to environmental concerns. Two months later, under orders from recently-inaugurated President Trump, the Army Corps of Engineers announced they would close down protest camps near Lake Oahe on Wednesday, February 22nd.
