This image subtly plays with the viewer's sense of perspective. The man serenely sits behind a torn muslin curtain, its uneven edges giving the effect of an aged photograph. Although this may be a snapshot captured in a passing moment by McCurry, the composition gives the illusion of a treasured family heirloom.
