Distro -
80th Anniversary of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki Atomic Bombings
Magnum Photographers
On August 6th and 9th, 1945 the US dropped two atomic bombs on Japan: the only instances of nuclear weapons having been used in warfare. The combined death toll was estimated to be between 129,000 to 250,000 with half of the victims perishing during the months following the attacks.
This year's 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki comes during a time of geopolitical tension, with people looking to the past as proof of the horrors of nuclear warfare.
