Feature - Violent Clashes in Calais. 1st October 2016
Violent clashes erupted in the so-called Jungle camp in Calais, home to thousands of migrants, after a demonstration in their support was banned by local authorities. The clashes opposed far left « No border » militants and migrants to the police, leaving 5 policemen and one photographer injured. Another 150 protesters who left Paris aboard four coaches, were blocked by police at a toll road 50 km from the city of Calais.
Although the numbers trying to get across the Channel have fallen - in July, some 2,000 migrants a night were trying to get into the terminal, compared to 150 in August - Calais...
