Herbert List and Paris is a love story and also a story about exile. The photographs in this exhibition explore the atmosphere of the Parisian days and nights in the late 1930s. The landmarks of the city, eternal symbols of Paris, are transformed into poetic, sublime compositions that reveal hidden angles and overlooked details. The human absence adds a dramatic aspect to these majestic portraits of the city. These pictures are far more than documentary, they represent the photographer's state of mind in an uncertain time.
